new month, new random tape

Okay guys.

I really don't know what to tell you about this song. I can't think who it reminds me of.
I can hear what he's saying quite clearly, but when I type the lines into google, I don't get anything.

Have an idea???
Keep those ears open

oh, and to review

here's the previous one again

a guy who's guessed like 3 of these things said it sounded like something Hot Water Music related. Could be a clue. I don't know.

my that new song is a stumper. .

. . people have been trying, but just aren't sure.

Hopefully, we get some guesses.

I want to post another song in the next two days, but we'll see how that works.

Meanwhile, I went ot a show last night.

Alcest, Woe and Have A Nice Life played at the Studio in Webster Hall.
N.E.R.D were playing in the big room, and I having not been there since Sonic Youth in '07 or. . i think it was '07
. .got on the wrong line
and stood in the wrong line for like 10 minutes. . until I saw the marquee.
oi

Have A Nice Life were up first.
They remind me of Jesu and A Place To Bury Strangers (and in some odd way Big Black, mainly stage presence).

It was their 3rd show ever. They were dogged by technical difficulties and still rocked that shit.
They had cassettes. I got one.
you hear this: http://www.myspace.com/haveanicelife

I dig 'em

I love how because of stuff like Wolves in the Throne room, you now get shoegaze bands and black metal bands on the same bill.

I wonder if A Place to Bury Strangers have ever played with someone like Wrath of the Weak.
(almost makes me wanna actually try to get a live band for 0cadavernamedAlison0)

next was Woe
I saw them last year with Tombs and Black Anvil.
One of the best US black metal bands in the game.
They played a new song, which killed.

then, Alcest.
I didn't even know they played live. I was under the impression this band was only 2 people. Maybe it's only two people recording the CDs.
Their singer had lost his voice, and the second guitarist announced he'd be assuming vocal duties for the night. He seemed to think he'd do terrible, but he was fine. They played almost the whole new album (I think there's one song they didn't play.. . but I've only listened to the new album two times . . .because it's been very hard to get off the Hooded Menace kick).

They didn't play the saddest song ever though

that's the saddest song ever (I give this title out way too freely. If we're to go by what I say, there are 100 saddest songs ever.. . .and most of them are by Slowdive and Envy [dead sinking story is lauded as classic genius stuff. .. .kids like being sad that much. Personally, I think their best material came before that album. dead sinking story is good though, don't get me wrong. . .but I don't put it on unless there's been a death]).
but yes
excellent show.

I think there's only one more show I'm going to before Maryland Death Fest (AKA the only good thing about 2010 besides the World Cup, and of course THE FUCKING WORLD CUP!!)

lastly
please listen to the song again

there will be a new one next post
thanks

random tapes randomness #2

1. There's only 3 or 4 people who are or ever were involved with visual kei fandom that I still talk to anymore, and it's not like any of them pay as much attention as i do, and that's saying a lot, because I don't pay that much attention either.
So, it's not like I expect to know about everything that goes on.

that said

WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME CALI≠GARI WERE BACK MAKING ALBUMS?!?!?!!?

They came out with an EP last month. . .but THEY MADE A NEW FULL LENGTH LAST SUMMER!

I thought it was just reunion shows.

. . .and oh man is this new shit good.
I don't remember liking 8 all that much, but ≠ is amazing, and 10 was really good too (the singles were called 9. . .and I didn't hear those yet)

2. these are my favorite things I've heard this year so far. .

Exhibit A - Wormed
Wormed are a tech/slam/gore/sci-fi/death metal band from Spain. Their vocals sound like the Predator. They released a single that is everything we all wish the last Cryptopsy single was.

-

. . . best tech death I've heard since the last Ulcerate album

Exhibit B - the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
They're set to release what will be the best metalcore record of the year until Early Graves release their album. It is abrasive, it is atonal, there's no pretty parts, there's no singing parts, it's just total fucking destruction. . . .the way i like mah sheeeit.
They put up two songs in the last month, and they're like fucking Donkey Kong in Smash Bros Brawl (or as I refer to it Smashy Trashy Brawly Brawly) after he gets that power up that makes you bigger than everyone else.
Yes. Hear all the new jawns up here.

Exhibit C - Deva Bratt
I only listen to the most hardcore, hostile, "bus dem up" dancehall. Vybz kartel used to be your go to guy for that, but Sting is over, so he's singing about whores again. Mavado's softened up too. Mavado used to to be the dancehall equivalent of Zorak when he was singing in that smooth R&B voice about "kickin' your fat ass" on the Brak show.
This guy, Deva Bratt, he's out for blood.

. . underrated as fuck, seriously.

I'm starting to like him more than Aidonia, and he's been my favorite since 2008.

visual kei, death metal, metalcore and dancehall. . . .yes

oh hold on

DOOM

Exhibit D - Hooded Menace
an old buddy recommended this, and I became obsessed.
Old school horror themed death/doom metal from Finland. Riffs that get stuck in your head for fucking DAYS. . . .for real.
Check this out

CRUSH

oh no no no, there's more

Exhibit E - Xrin Arms
I just grabbed this album from his Reverb Nation site. I have no idea what the hell to compare it to, it's just way out of control. I've been into this artist for a couple of years, and they just keep surprising me.

yeah, pick that up here

oh oh oh oh, look look look look

Exhibit F - Bubblegum Octopus
ya boy put up some new songs

yes he did

he's about to go on tour
dates are on that page

swing it

I think that's all

so we had visual kei, death metal, Xrin Arms, 8-bit twee grind, doom metal and hardcore dance hall reggae

pretty random

hm??

. . .oh no, no no, wait

new Dystopiaq release
Nick R 61

it takes a lot for an electronica release to hold my attention
and this kid's got it

3. I don't like the new Deftones record anymore.

had i waited to buy it, I'd be pretty pissed.

that's all i'mma say

4. the year is barren for shows (because I don't live in brooklyn and cannot be bothered to drive there)
I'm going to see Narrows
and then I'm going to Maryland Death Fest

that's it

Killing Joke are playing, but it's 30 bucks and I'm feeling hella stingy because I saw them last year.
?!?!

oh well

nobody's guessed the last song yet
a new one may or may not come this week

keep those ears open
good night

Friday, April 2, 2010

oh yes, in timely fashion, HERE'S ANOTHER!

Okay, so, this song I have no idea who it could be at all.

It sounds like it could be a Touch & Go band. . .or not. . .

. . . yeah, I'm stumped

help a brotha out

keep those ears open

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

my bro

Mr. Adam Cooley has done it again

the latest random tape
is in fact Wire

"write another letter" by Wire

I don't think that was even 2 days after posting the song

thanks again

new random tape, and some posts and crap coming up if my procrastinating behind can remember

yeesh

Saturday, March 27, 2010

I'm not gonna make an excuse this time

new unidentified song!!!

to me this sounds like it might be Wire
but I wouldn't really know
it's kind of danceable, and I don't really know what these two are on about in their somewhat monotone singing, but they seem to have English accents.

do ya know it??

someones gotta know it

keep those ears open
maybe I'll come back before two weeks go by. . .god forbid. . .

random tapes randomness #1

alright. . . . .

- Since I'm not gonna record this week, I would like to. . .I dunno. . POST SOME SONGS. . eh?
God forbid I actually do that. Right?

- I was at Cold Stone Creamery, and they tend to play a lot of 80s stuff on the PA there. So, Bananarama comes on . . . .and it was right then I realized the porblem with Lush.
The problem with Lush is, you take away all that shoegazey-ness and what are you left with?
Bananarama

Now, this would've been a perfect excuse to post Onision's "i'm a banana" video. . . but I'm going to exhibit some self control.

dammit.

- Speaking of Self Control, I'm on a Mad Capsule Markets kick again. You know, that Japanese band Kerrang! jocked (they might still jock them, I don't know) way past thier prime. Before they were jocked by Kerrang!, they sounded more like this. .

Which isn't to say those rather popular records they did were necessarily BAD. . .but they were bad compared to that stuff.

Mad Capsule Markets are one of my bro Incentive's favorite bands . . .and you should check out his label Dystopiaq's new compilation.

- of course, the awful news has spread that Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse died this weekend.
All this time, I thought I'd only heard one song by them ("someday I'll treat you good", for the record.)
I went to I Heart Noise and in his tribute he posted this video. .

. . .this was on a random tape.
I didn't know who it was.

Fucking awesome song.
Fucking awesome band.

Rest in Power
