look at me, look at me, waiting a whole fucking month to post yet again
whooooooo
what's my excuse this time?
I've been recording the new Kindergarten Hazing Ritual album.
and, all the songs are recorded.
I'm going into editing/arrangement/mixing mode on it as we speak.
In the mean time
i number them
1. rememeber this song??
random tape #522
well
it was identified by a guy known only as mithrandir
and it's "I don't need this fucking shit" by Negative FX
thank you much
I don't have a new one. The last one hasn't been guessed yet either.
I've got crap to say though.
2. . . man, I really hope i don't need to start talking to bitches again.
Yet another J-rock band I loved in college got back together, and I heard nothing.
First, Kuroyume play reunion shows, and I have no chance to save up and go to Japan and see them
then cali≠gari make a full length, an EP and apparently break up again, before I hear anything
then, I almost don't hear that Daisuke from Kagerou died 2 weeks ago(R.I.P. - for the record, this was the last good Kagerou song)
now, SADS ARE BACK!!!!
and they're even better than they were when they went on hiatus in 2003 (probably after Kiyoharu realized Dir en grey were ripping him off again :) I kid, I kid, the last Dir single was actually really good. . . . but for real, there's some real SADS ripoff songs on Kisou. . and I say that as someone who thinks Kisou is THEE best Dir album).
It's like lynch. with a WAY better singer. (face it weaboos, Kiyoharu is better than every visual kei singer. . . .ever)
2. My buddy Reaper has been recommending Ihsahn's newest solo album to me for the last 2 months. Ihsahn. You know Ihsahn. don't you? you don't remember this?
here's him and another guy explaining the "loss and curse" riff
I checked out the new album this weekend. I youtubed some songs, and I found a song from the second album that also features Mikey Akerfeldt from Opeth.
how come metal guys in Europe know how to do good cop bad cop vocals without sounding like little children?
well yeah
Ihsahn's new album fucking rules. I guess you might say it's like Opeth if they were heavy more than 20% of the time. He used 8 sring guitars on this album, and there's a saxophone player
which
pretty much ALWAYS works with metal
Birdflesh and Cephalic Carnage and Sigh wouldn't tell you any different.
It gets a 9/10
that's my verdict
3. I will not drive to Brooklyn unless Deadguy get back together.
okay?
okay
so, here's a show I didn't get to see
the whole thing
it's Early Graves, who's album GONER will KICK YOUR ASS
thank you metal injection
4. TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE NEW KIDS IN THE HALL MINI SERIES DEATH COMES TO TOWN PREMIERES ON US TV!!
AUGUST 20th ON IFC!!!
5. last but most: friends of mine made records!!!!
Exhibit A. Gozer - pretty much the worst split ever
My band Kindergarten Hazing Ritual did a split with this excellent drum machine grind band a couple years ago.
They just released another split, for free download at that link.
GO!
Exhibit B. the Cocker Spaniels - sometimes you have to fight to get a bit of peace
This is a guy I've known since high school. It's his first album in about 7 years.
If you dig Guided By Voices, and other classic indie rock the likes of which is barely made anymore, you should grab this jawn right here.
Go!

after last night it's hard to shine. . .
another found random tape.
I heard this song when i was maybe 15 or 16, and no joke, I thought it sounded like the Rza fronting a hardcore band. . . .and of course, there was that news that the Rza was working with a hardcore band called Dog Eat Dog. . but I never heard any of that. It probably didn't sound like this.
Indie rock used to kick your ass like metal. Think about it, the Jesus Lizard, Drive Like Jehu, Slint and of course all those Amphetamine Reptile bands influenced most of the GOOD metalcore bands in the world (I'm talking about bands like Coalesce, Converge and Botch).
Of course, only now am I figuring out which band is which. Radio shows used to play Rodan, Hoover, Slint, Silkworm and June of 44 back to back, and not say who they played.
I swear I'm gonna post more random tapes. . . but I've had no guesses for the current ones.
oh well
keep those ears open
(sing it with me now SHARKS AND SAILORS!!!!!!!)

I'm gonna really show you how much of a clueless late bloomer I am with this post. . .
you hear this song??
I heard this song when I was about, 17. okay?
at this point the only Melvins song i knew was "hooch" because I saw it on beavis and Butthead. . .and that amazing cover they do of "lexicon devil".
okay
so you, I heard this song
I had it on a tape
it fucking ruled
I literally just found out 5 minutes ago that it's a Melvins song
yeah
you know how?
I was reading reviews of the show I went to on Friday, and the setlist said they played the intro
I got such a "holy shit" look on my face
had they played the whole song that night, I know I'd have recognized it and yelled "holy shit"
I mean, you realize how behind I am now, right?
I've only heard the last 3 records, and Houdini and Stoner Witch
yeah
I've got some listening to do, eh?
*sigh* fun.
anyway
here's the latest random tape
that shoegaze song

So hey. . .
. . it has come to my attention that sometimes when people try to comment, it doesn't work.
If this happens to you, feel free to drop me a line at corymonster@gmail.com.
(unless of course you have me as a facebook freind. . .which, in that case, just hit me up there)
Meanwhile, I want to thank Ted for confirming that the second song in the previous post is in fact Endeavor, and the pop punk song is non other than Screeching Weasel.
I still need the other three.
I'm gonna wait a little to post another song. . .maybe. . . .
